an education

I just discovered the photographer Nan Goldin while at the MOMA in NYC.  When I first viewed her work on the museum’s website, i passed it off as something i didn’t find aesthetically pleasing.  While viewing her work at the museum, it instantly struck me that i remembered every inch of each of her photographs I had seen before, and the subjects were far too familiar to me for just one previous viewing.  I stayed for a long time in front of her photographs, imagining the lives of each of her subjects and how the situation unfolded and where it was going.  It was a really amazing experience and I came out of the museum completely intrigued by Nan Goldin’s work and wanting to study it more.  She somehow makes these amazing images that tell such a strong story, but most likely a different one for each viewer. This is just the beginning of my art education.
